This is our evaluation of our production.

Main Points Of The Evaluation

Plan

.Attendance problems – People not showing up to lessons, late marks ECT …

.Editing problems - lack of internet – Learning the ways of final cut, and being without the internet for several lessons.

.Camera and tripod problems – Filming with a broken tripod, and filming without good sound quality, and filming in HD accidently

.Continuity editing – Members of the group were wanting to film in different weather conditions, and different times of the day.

.Costume problems – Finding the appropriate costume to use for the opening.

.Music – Finding music that suits the genre, and making sure it was copy write free.

.Angles/Match on Actions – Deciding what angles to use, and when to use match on action shots, and figuring out how to edit the two scenes together.

.Target audience – 13 – 19 year olds, Teenage age group.

.Media Institution – What company would most likely release a film such as ours.

.Social Groups – Stereotypes, counter stereotypes, imbalance of social groups.

.What we have learnt since our preliminary task – Different angles and rules, lighting, editing with music and text, effects, such as wire frame.

.Final Cut, Macs, Garage band – Getting to learn how to use the Mac computers and coming to terms with the new technology.

. Up to date music (kind of), over exaggerated costume and acting – Music that can relate to our target audience, basic stereotypical superhero music.

.Use of counter types against superheros – Portraying Keith as weak and pathetic instead of the usual superhero style. E.g... Strong and powerful.

. Mise en scene – Good use of hidden extras that the audience may or may not see.

.Shot framing and head room – Not wasting shot space, such as too much head room, which can ruin certain shots.

.The Blogs – Keeping our blogs up to date, making weekly analysis videos.

My Name Is Keith Opening - Final Cut

This is our final film opening. It is called "My Name Is Keith".

This weeks plans

For this week we are going to film the last shots of the film. We are then going to start editing on Thursday (if possible) and hope to spend 8-10 hours on editing and we will do any reshoots (if necessary). We plan to have the whole thing finished by Friday and uploaded onto here.

What we have left to do.

We have to film a few more shots of the opening, think about editing options then actually go into editing. Shooting is going well but we need to go over our footage and see if the framing is good and we need to think about the mise - en - scene. After editing, we will look through it and check if we need any reshoots or if we need to change some of the transitions or how we have edited it.

This is our animatic, it shows the basic feel and the shots we want in our actual opening.

Story Board

This is our storyboard we created for the opening of our film.

Preliminary Movie

This is our preliminary movie. We filmed this in preparation for our opening so that we would be able to use the basic shots needed e.g: shot/reverse shot, over the shoulder shot and match on action shot.

Treatment

The core themes of our film will be a zero to hero. With the zero being Keith (Ryan Knight). Keith is a hero who believes he is amongst one of the greats but in fact he is a simple minded, mild mannered brummie, he can’t even save a cat from a tree. The story will see him realise that he is isn’t in fact a good hero when he tries to rescue a cat from a burning building but he fails to do this because his hero skills match that of a tea cup. The film will see Keith turn into a slightly better hero with help from a retired hero.

In our opening will be a long shot of Keith’s house (Ryan’s house) then it will zoom in to his bedroom where we will see Keith sleeping. We will then see him being rudely awakened by his alarm clock and fall out of bed in a slapstick manner. He will then go on to eat breakfast to show that he is a normal everyday guy. After he has ate his breakfast he will then get “suited” up into his hero costume which is just his mom’s dress, a pair of slippers and an afro or a sieve for a helmet. Finally, Keith will proceed into his living room where he is met by his brother who mocks him and beats him up. We will add this last scene because it shows how bad of a hero Keith actually is.

Problems With The Preliminary

We have experienced some technical problems with the settings on the cameras. Our camera men failed to changed the settings and ended up turning our footage into HD (high definition).

This really slowed us down due to the fact we couldn't import our footage into Final Cut. To solve this problem we had to open up all the files with quicktime player then save them individually.

Next time we film we will make sure that the settings are what we have been told they should be.

Preliminary Task

For our task we are going to have Dean (me) and Ryan playing chess. I will walk down the corridor and enter room, as i'm entering the room we will have a match on action shot to show 2 different angles as I enter the door. Also we will use this shot when i'm walking down the ramp to face Ryan who is master at the game of chess. I think i'm turning up for a game of Uno with his mother. As they are platying, we wil have shot/reverse shot's from over the shoulder. We will consistently keep to the 180 degree rule. Matthew and Tom will be filming.

Good or Evil?

From this graph we found out that more people expect evil to win a parody more than they expect a good guy to win.

Twist in a film.

This is a grpah to show a question from our questionaire. It shows that the villain winning is the least favoured twist whereas the superhero being the real villain is the main twist people expect to see.

Expectations of a parody

This is a question from our questionaire and we found out that stupid heroes are the main expectation from a parody. Lack of plot was least favoured.

This is a question from our questionaire, we found out the Joker was the most favoured villain whereas Green Goblin is less favoured.

This is our grpah from our questionaire question. It shows that Spiderman, Superman and Batman are the favoured superheroes whilst Iron Man and Womderwoman aren't as well liked.

Narrative

A narrative is a story as sories are endemic of people's lives. It has existed as long as human beings have since there was a cave drawing, thought to be from the stone age. To see the drawing click here.

The 3 types of narrative are:

Binary Opposition - to create meaning through establishing a role for a character and that the character must have an opposite. It conforms to the idea that we cannot have 'good' without having 'evil'.

Equilibrium - There are 3 states of equilibruim : Equilibrium - Normal everyday life
Disequilibrium - A problem occurs.
New state of equilibrium - The problem is resolved.

Character types :
Hero: Lead role ( can be man or woman)
Villain: Causes a problem for the hero and conflicts with him/her.
Heroine: Prize for the hero (man or woman)
Father: Authority figure, sometimes offers a reward for the hero.
Helper: Usually the sidekick or someone that helps the hero solve a problem.
Doner: Something that gives the hero a power, talisman, key etc.
Mentor: Someone who teaches the hero an important lesson in the story.

They are all usful in their own way like the Binary Opposition suggests there can be no good without any evil, this is true because without someone to cause a problem for the Hero, the film would be boring and not attract an audience. Equilibrium is good because people can see these states in every narrative they watch/read and there is plenty of evidence for it. Finally, the character types are visable in all narratives, if all of them aren't in the narrative then the majority are there.
